Currere: An Excercise in Self-Discovery

Pinar (1975) wrote The Method of Currere, a method that allows us to explore what we have conceptualized through time, the complex relation between the temporal and conceptual, thus we can discover our self, its evolution and education (p. 19).

After having completed an exercise using currere in your course wiki, what insights have you gained in through the process about yourself?

The Courage to Teach

Within teaching, Palmer (2006) highlights the culture of fear that prevails in the educational field. This fear encourages teachers to distance themselves from their students. Althought he shares with us his experience with the "student from hell", we are urged to "be not afraid".

Reflect on the reading and post your reaction to it.

Why teach?

Today you will commence your online reflecting process by meditating and answering the following questions:
1. Why are you interested in teaching?
2. Tell me about a significant person, event, book or idea that made you want to teach?

Through reflections we can connect theory to pracitce

As educators, reflection must become a part of your everyday practice. Reflection allows us to deeply meditate and contemplate our actions and choices within the classroom. Ultimately, the goal is for you to become a reflective educator and a more effective educator. This of course will benefit your students.
You will be posting numerous reflections throught out this course, EDPE 4005 - Secondary Level ESL Seminar.
